This challenge's goal was to use a supplied footage of a dancing women and make the shot like in the movie "300".
I chose to try to acheive the look of the movie as much as possible.
I used photoshop to paint every cloud and then imported the psd file with the layers to Fusion and animated each cloud to get a suble look of movement. As for the woman, I keyed out the background with Fusion and also created a seperate key for her dress so that I could color correct her dress differently. I used maya expressions to make the smoke which is basically a whole lot of particle sprites. The cloth was done with syflex. In order to have a collision object I created a proxy model and rig which followed the movement of the actor. That proxy model also aided me partially to mask out and in the cloth on the actor at the parts it's visible behind and in front of the character.
The most time consuming task was tweaking the cloth parameters due to the fact that the shot from the movie was shot underwater and the cloth sim they used was created accordingly. On the other hand the supplied footage wasn't intended originally to have that kind of motion so I tried to find the balance that would fit.
